Tips for optimizing Windows - giving the computer speed

I'll tell you how, with minimum time and effort, to bring your computer or laptop in order, increase its responsiveness, make it turn on faster.
It's no secret that over time the computer starts to work more slowly. Fortunately, this is fixable. It is enough just to carry out regular optimization, remove excess information garbage and observe some rules. It does not require any third-party programs, you can do it with the built-in Windows. About them and will be my story.
I'll start with simple methods of optimization, I will end more radical, requiring increased attention.

1. Remove unnecessary programs

I am sure that there are one, two or more programs on your computer that you did not use for months. Such programs are recommended to be removed in order, first, to free up space on the hard disk, and secondly - many programs have components that slow down the system a little.
Go to Start - Control Panel -  Add or Remove Programs  (for Windows XP) or Start - Control Panel -  Programs and Components  (in Windows Vista and 7) and use this useful tool to remove all unnecessary programs. Delete only those programs whose name and purpose you know.
I strongly recommend that you remove the following programs if they are available to you: Sputnik.com, Guard@Mail.ru, AlterGeo Magic Scanner, Yandex.Bar, WinZix, Google Toolbar, Bing Bar, Start Search, Update Software, Speedbit, Ask toolbar, Ask.com, Gator, QIP Internet Guardian.
Programs containing the following words in the title should not be deleted. it can be drivers or useful programs :  A4Tech, Acer, Acorp, AMD, Asus, ATI, AVerMedia, BenQ, C-Media, Canon, Creative, D-Link, Defender, Dell, GeForce, Genius, Hewlett-Packard, HP, IBM, Java, LAN, Lexmark, Microsoft, Mobile, Motherboard, Mustek, nVidia, Realtek, Samsung, Toshiba, Wi-Fi, Wireless.

2. Clean the hard disk of unnecessary files

We will not confine ourselves to the removal of programs-we will continue to clean up further. Go to Start - All Programs - Standard - System Tools - Disk Cleanup:
Here's the window that opens:
Select the C: drive and click OK:
Here we click the Clear system files button to open a more complete version of this program:
Note:  in Windows XP you do not need to click "Clear system files", because this button is not there.
Further safely put daws on all the lines - nothing important will be removed, you remove only garbage.
Then click OK, a pop-up window with a question will appear, click Delete files and wait:
The second stage is completed, we proceed to the next.
3. Checking and defragmenting the hard drive
Open  My computer  (in Windows Vista and 7 item is called simply -  Computer  and is located in the Start menu), then right click on the drive C:
Having selected  Properties , we get to the window named  Properties  (it is quite logical), open the Tools tab  :
First of all we press Execute check:
Be sure to check the  Automatically correct system errors . Checkbox on  Checking and repairing damaged sectors is  desirable to put, but then the test will take a minimum of an hour or more. It's unlikely you want to wait that long. Therefore, if your computer turns on and off without errors and hangs, if there are also no windows appearing in the process of errors and there are no unexpected hangs, then you cannot tick.
Click OK. Since this is a drive with Windows installed, the following window will appear:
Click the Schedule check disk and reboot the computer. At boot time, instead of the usual welcome screen, the blue screen (on Windows XP) or the black screen (Vista and 7) will pop up first - do not press anything, wait - there will be a disk check.
When the computer finally boots, check the remaining hard disks, if they exist (D :, F :, E: etc.). Of course, CD and DVD drives do not need to be checked.
Next, go to the second step - defragmentation. After this procedure, your computer will quickly turn on, programs will also start faster.
In the properties of the C: drive, click Run Defragmentation:
Note: you can also start the defragmentation from the Start menu - All Programs - Standard - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter.
In Windows Vista and 7, defragmentation is configured to start automatically, but for a number of reasons, this launch may not work. For example, the computer at this time is turned off - no defragmentation will, of course. So starting manually at least once a month (often no sense) is more than recommended.
Close all programs that you can close, then select the disk to defragment and click  Disk Defragmenter . We are waiting for the completion of this procedure, then defragment the next disk.
4. Remove unnecessary programs from autorun
The most effective way to make your computer run faster is to turn off some programs that start when you turn it on.
Press  Start - Run  or the combination of keys [ Win ] + [ R ] ([ Win ] - this is a button with the Windows logo between Ctrl and Alt). In the appeared window enter  msconfig
Click on  OK.  The "System Configuration" program will start, in it open the Startup tab and disable unused applications.
5. Cleaning the computer or laptop from dust
Often acquaintances carry me their laptops and computers with a request to "reinstall Windows, because it slows down." In the vast majority of cases, reinstalling Windows is not required. Usually the reason for the brakes of the laptop and the desktop computer is overheating  Flakes of dust and wool of domestic animals gather on its fans, inhibit rotation, block heat generation ... brp ... So regularly - once every six months or a year - do dusting your "electronic pet".
